I love this picture. I took this one while hiking up the mountain behind my wife's childhood home. This was on the mountain with the Hindu temple on top. This picture of a little naked Indian boy playing in the dirt looks like it could be a "for only pennies a day" poster... that is until you take a close look at the picture and realize that little naked Indian boy playing in the dirt is wearing several hundred dollars worth of gold jewelry.

Oh yeah, baby, Indians love their BLING BLING! And it's none of that gold plated 10K crap so many people wear here in Canada. It's solid 24K pure gold or nothing for them. There are jewelry shops everywhere and they sell high quality stuff. We didn't buy much bling this trip although my wife did buy some silver jewelry in Bangalore. I'm not much of a jewelry man myself. I wear a watch and my wedding ring and that's about it. Indians love their gold though.

Yep, this little boy isn't naked and playing in the dirt because he's poor and starving. He's naked because it's hot as a freaking oven in India at this time of year and he's playing in the dirt because 1) if you don't surround your house with a ring of dirt or gravel you're just asking to get bit on the ass by a cobra hiding in the grass, and 2) it's fun to play in the dirt.

So take a lesson from li'l naked Bling Boy about judging based on preconceptions and appearance. Things arn't always what they seem.
