This is what things looked like to the rear right of my table in Artist's Alley.
Artist's Alley is about all I saw during the entire convention. Getting a table isn't a good way to
see the convention because believe me, you're busy working it the whole time you're there. By the time the convention was finished I was thoroughly exhausted and my voice was shot from all the
schpeiling I was doing. You gotta have a good speil if you want people to notice you at these things because you're competing for attention against a lot of other artists. The guy at the table beside me had no game at all the first day of the convention. His speil was weak. But after watching me demonstrait the art of the schpeil he leared how to speil at a compitent level. Showmanship is everything, baby.
Since the only product I had to sell was prints of my own characters and artwork (stuff that would only appeal to people who were already readers of my comic) I was really there to promote the comic. I gave out over 1000 business cards with the URL on it to passers-by and many came back on subsiquent days to purchase prints and tell me they were now fans of the comic.
Woohoo!
